Designed for the Science and Tech Facility in Oxford, the Rift Booth is a bespoke workspace solution that brings together privacy, comfort and biophilic design. Created to support informal meetings, focused conversations and moments of quiet collaboration, the four-seater booth introduces a refined architectural element within a contemporary workplace environment. The integration of an external planter softens the structure and enhances the spatial experience, introducing greenery that contributes to a more balanced and welcoming setting.
The Rift Booth was conceived as a structured yet inviting space within an open environment. A clean, metal-framed architecture finished in white creates a light and modern outline, while ply panels extending to the ceiling help define the booth and subtly enhance acoustic comfort. The lower half of the frame is upholstered, adding visual warmth and tactile softness. Materiality plays a key role in the overall aesthetic. The booth carcass is finished in Sorano Oak, introducing a natural timber tone that complements the surrounding interior. Face-to-face seating is supported by timber legs and upholstered in a carefully considered palette — Entwine Leaf for the seat and Entwine Pebble for the seat back — creating a calm and balanced visual composition. A white table with a matching white legs maintains a clean, minimal profile within the booth. The integrated planter, framed within the structure, includes a dedicated shelf designed to accommodate planting, reinforcing the biophilic design concept and softening the architectural form.
The Rift Booth delivers a refined and purposeful meeting space that blends seamlessly into the Science and Tech Facility’s contemporary interior. By combining structured framing, warm natural finishes and integrated planting, the design creates a comfortable micro-environment that supports collaboration while enhancing wellbeing. The result is a sophisticated, bespoke booth solution that elevates both the functionality and atmosphere of the workspace.
