Creating Quiet, Flexible Study Spaces at Bath

A Contemporary Education Environment

Overview

This project in Bath was developed to support the evolving needs of modern education environments, where students require both collaboration zones and quiet spaces for focused work. The interior concept combines architectural heritage with contemporary furniture solutions that improve comfort, acoustics, and flexibility.

The space integrates three key elements: the Solus Booth, designed for private conversations and concentrated study; the Creator tier seating, offering an informal collaborative platform; and the Saloon high-back lounge chairs, providing comfortable, semi-private seating for individual work or relaxed discussion.

Together, these pieces create a balanced learning landscape that supports different modes of study throughout the day.

The Design Approach

The design responds to the architectural character of the Bath building while introducing modern materials and soft acoustic solutions.

The Solus 2-person booth was selected to provide enclosed, distraction-free spaces. Upholstered internally in Camira Blazer Surrey, with external panels in Blazer Plymouth, the booth offers acoustic comfort while maintaining visual transparency through clear glass doors and walls. Oak veneer capping adds warmth and complements the building’s timber features, while Dust Grey U732 table and trim elements introduce a contemporary contrast.

The Creator tier seating system introduces a flexible, social learning element. Configurations combine upholstery from Blazer Aston, Blazer Surrey, and Synergy Lateral, creating visual rhythm while maintaining durability for high-traffic use.

To support more relaxed work modes, the Saloon high-back armchairs provide acoustic comfort and visual privacy. Upholstered in Camira Synergy Lateral with Blazer Surrey outer surfaces and finished with oak legs, they blend warmth with a refined, contemporary aesthetic.

The Outcome

The completed space successfully balances openness with privacy, creating an environment that encourages both collaboration and focus.

Solus booths provide quiet zones for study and meetings, Creator seating encourages informal interaction, and Saloon chairs offer comfortable retreats within the wider space.

Together, these elements create a flexible, welcoming learning environment that reflects the needs of modern education while respecting the character of its Bath location.
